Pura Pura Agua Caliente is one of Costa Rica’s most historic and famous volcanic hot springs. It was once frequented by the world's elite for hundreds of years, until and earthquake in 1910 destroyed the area. Our group is bringing back this lost heaven on earth.
The rich attributes and healing powers of this natural hot spring have made it a lucrative destination among seekers of relaxation and therapy, renamed by the Spanish as the “Fountain of Eternal Youth”. The water is crystalized by the fires of the Irazu volcano, and infused with rich minerals that sizzle to the surface making bubbles, and for this reason it is called “El Hervidero”, “The Boiling Place”.

HISTORY OF PURA PURA
​
It is believed that the hot springs was discovered by an English Physician. In 1884, Governor of Cartago made the discovery public and built a hotel that served as a global destination for the rich and famous. The elite would come from all over the world to experience the miraculous healing effects and wonderful treatment of various ailments. Patients suffering from seizures, skin conditions, stomach problems, lowered immune systems and other illnesses benefited from its healing benefits. With just one bath, the results are evident.

Cartago region is currently undergoing a phase of rejuvenation and massive development. Roads, trains, hospitals, foreign investments, shopping centers, and tourist sites create a further demand for resorts and hotels.

The Waters' Incredible Healing Powers

In the 19th century two German scientists, Dr. Alexander van Francius and Dr. Hoffman, published a report on the “miraculous waters' and its healing qualities. People suffering from cancer, skin conditions, stomach problems, and other diseases have been documented to have benefited from its therapeutic effects. Current research has shown the water quality of the therapeutic hot springs in Agua Caliente to be superior to that of Baden-Baden Carlsbad, Aux-le-Chapelle etc. The government hospital in Cartago has published written testimonials of complete healing of their most ill patients.
